Swaledale in Snow — Landscape Collection
Swaledale in Snow — Landscape Collection
I’m incredibly excited to announce the release of five new landscape Christmas cards, featuring Swaledale beneath a blanket of snow as it falls over Muker, Thwaite and Keld.
The daytime photographs were captured on what I can only describe as a mad Monday! I’d spotted that a band of snowmageddon was sweeping across Swaledale, so after heading into work, I managed to persuade my boss to let me finish very early — conveniently, the following day was my day off! I arrived in the dale just as the snow really started to come down, and it quickly became one of those afternoons where visibility disappeared and everything was transformed into a winter wonderland.
The five images are:
1. Swale Farm, Muker
I love the sense of perfect isolation the snow gives this little farm, with subtle hints of colour peeking through an almost monochrome scene. I love this photograph so much that it has pride of place on our living room wall.
2. Muker Literary Institute & St Margaret’s Church
A familiar view for anyone beginning an adventure in Muker. The lone bench seems to cry out for someone to sit down, contemplate the falling snow and perhaps warm themselves with a hot cocoa.
3. Keld Phone Box at Dawn
The old phone box glows warmly against the snowy fields surrounding Keld, with just a glimmer of colour in the sky as the day slowly awakens from its slumber.
4. Thwaite in Snow
One of the first photographs I took when I arrived in Swaledale that afternoon, just as the snow began to fall more heavily. Only a few minutes after taking this, the snowfall became so intense that you could barely see the cottages!
5. Two Trees, Thwaite
Just up from the bridge stand these two beautiful trees, with a tumble-down old barn nestled between them. I love the skeletal shapes of the branches against the almost completely white background.
The Cards
The photographs are printed matt with a white border on beautiful Italian Tintoretto Gesso 300gsm card. The card has a rich, dappled, fine-art hammered texture that mimics traditional watercolour paper, which works particularly well with these snowy scenes and gives the photographs an almost painterly quality.
The cards come with 233 × 160mm envelopes and are bound in packs of five, with one of each of the five images in every pack.
A little piece of snow-covered Swaledale, ready to send to someone special this Christmas. 🎄❄️
