Swaledale in Snow — Portrait Collection

I’m excited to announce a second collection of five Christmas cards featuring Swaledale in winter, this time with five portrait-format photographs capturing the dale beneath snow, from the church at Muker to the old phone box at Keld.

Each image captures a different little moment from a bitterly cold winter day in Upper Swaledale, when the snow transformed the familiar landscape into something altogether magical.

1. St Mary the Virgin, Muker
Snow billows around the tower of the old church in Muker, with just a few hints of colour breaking through the cold white. Those subtle colours bring a touch of warmth to an otherwise bitterly cold Yorkshire winter scene.

2. The Gate to Narnia
The famous gate leading into Muker Meadows, with a skeletal tree standing in the distance. I was most definitely the only person to pass through this gate and into the winter wonderland that afternoon.

3. Keld at Dawn
The winter sky wakes up and puts on a bit of a show above the dry stone walls and cow’uses (barns), providing a stark contrast to the bitterly cold temperatures of -6°C in Upper Swaledale.

4. Swaledale Sheep Relaxing in the Snow
Sheep doing what sheep do best — mooching around and completely ignoring the weather, picking out the cold winter grass still visible between the freshly falling snow.

5. Keld Phone Box at Dawn
The old phone box glows warmly against the snowy fields surrounding Keld, providing the only real splash of colour in an otherwise stark, monochrome landscape.

The Cards

The photographs are printed matt with a white border on beautiful Italian Tintoretto Gesso 300gsm card. The card has a rich, dappled, fine-art hammered texture that mimics traditional watercolour paper, which works particularly well with these snowy scenes and gives the photographs an almost painterly quality.

The cards come with 215 × 152mm envelopes and are bound in packs of five, with one of each of the five images in every pack.
